A Really Awesome Mother’s Day Gift Idea PLUS Win $30 Gift Card

If you follow me on Facebook, you probably know about my friend Carli.

A former foster kid, Carli found herself six months pregnant and sleeping on the streets with no car, no job and nowhere to go.  She was introduced to my brother in-law (a pastor) and he brought her home to us.  We asked her to come stay in the guest bedroom of my parent’s apartment.  It’s certainly not a nice room, but it’s safe and dry and has given us the opportunity to get to know Carli.  I now consider her a friend.  She is hard-working and kind and smart and funny and we just love her.

Carli works hard. Since she moved onto our property, she got a job (at the Boy’s and Girl’s Club) and a car (from a kind donor) and has a plan to start school in the fall after her baby is born (she wants to be a teacher).  She also started a business.  Ambitious, right?

The business started when she found an old piece of wire in our barn.  Two hours later, she handed this to my parents:

It’s a beautiful wall hanging.  Made out of old, rusty wire.

My sister immediately took her to Hobby Lobby and bought her some wire and beads and told her to start getting creative.  And Carli’s business, Twisting Hope, was born.  Since then, her business has grown as she’s made beautiful pieces, come up with a business plan and started to dream big.

Here are a few of the things she has made:

Amazing, right?

All this said, Carli’s baby Isabella is due this week (EEEEK!  I can’t wait to meet her) and Carli is working so hard to get things in place so she can get her own apartment and raise her daughter.  Being a single mom will be hard, but if anyone can do it, it’s Carli!  Like I said, she’s so smart and ambitious and has so much grit.  She’s going to be great.

Of course, it takes a whole village to raise a child and Carli is going to need some help.  And one of the best ways we can help Carli right now is by helping her business grow and succeed so that she can provide long-term care for her daughter. Here are some ways you can do that:

    1.  Shop at Twisting Hope.  Carli has an amazing selection of personalized Mother’s Day jewelry (see her Mother’s Day line here) available right now and if you order quickly, she can have it ready in time for Mother’s Day.  I love that she coordinates the beads to the birth stones of kids and grandkids to make a truly personal gift.

    1. Spread the word.  Share her shop and her story with your friends.

    1. If you live in Austin, Carli would love to come by your house and tell you her story and how God has redeemed a very difficult situation.  She’ll even bring necklaces and earrings for you to look at and see when she comes. {Note:  Isabella is literally due any day so if you want to have Carli over, just know it could be delayed with this birth of her baby.}

    1. WIN a $30 Gift Card to CARLI’s ETSY STORE.  My sister Alisa is sponsoring a giveaway of a $30 gift card to Carli’s store.  Just leave a comment on this blog post and let us know which piece you’d like to win and one lucky person will be drawn at random to win.  (NOTE:  Etsy policy says that the voucher has to be $30 off of a purchase of $33 or more, so we’ll give you the $30 gift card, but you’ll have to spend $33.  I’ll pay pal you $3 to cover the extra.)  Winner will be drawn on May 1st!

Let’s shower this wonderful women with love, help her business grow and get some AMAZING jewelry to boot.

  1. Hi! I know about Carli because of Alisa. My daughter dances with Haddie. I’m so happy to hear about how God is moving in Carli’s life. I have shared the link to this blog on my Facebook page. If I won the gift card, I would buy a tree of life necklace with birthstones of my family members. Thanks!

  2. Ooh, I love the second-to-last pendant!

  3. Wow, I love her work. Very talented! I really like the tear drop tree of life. Beautiful and simple :)

  4. Love the darker pendent! Awesome job helping her out and good luck Carli!

  5. I would love one for my momma for Mother’s Day.

  6. That is amazing. We are foster parents. Even though I do not know her, I am extremely proud of her :). I love everything, but I like her work with the tree of life in it.
